Save81.org would like to say congratulations to Rep. John Katko on being sworn in this month as a member of the 114th Congress, where he will undoubtedly serve as a strong advocate for our region in Washington, D.C.
And as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Katko will be a critical voice for Central New Yorkers as state and federal transportation officials move forward with the next phase of the Interstate 81 project.
While residents have expressed many concerns about I-81’s future, it is important to remember that recent surveys have shown broad support for maintaining I-81’s current path through the region. On top of that, more than 4,000 residents have signed Save81.org’s petition in support of I-81.
Rep. Katko’s has said that officials should evaluate a full range of solutions during the next phase of the project, and that concerns of residents from the entire region should be considered. Save81.org could not agree more. We believe he will be a strong and thoughtful leader for the region and wish him the best of luck as he begins his first term.
