In May, the Sennett Town Board unanimously passed a resolution supporting the need to maintain the existing alignment of Interstate 81 through Syracuse and rejecting a plan to construct a boulevard though the Syracuse. The boulevard is one option being considered by Department of Transportation officials in Albany for handling the aging I-81 infrastructure which will reach the end of its useful life in 2017.
The Sennett Town Board highlighted the threats posed by the potential increased commercial traffic congestion and the potential threats to economic development, quality of life, public safety and the environment.
The Sennett Town Board has appointed a representative to attend any meetings in Cayuga County regarding the re-routing of I-81 to lobby against it.
