In December 2016, the Village of Skaneateles Board of Trustees approved a resolution in support of maintaining Interstate 81’s existing highway designation in the City of Syracuse.
Village officials raised concerns about how truck and car traffic would increase on local roads if I-81’s current alignment is removed.
“Increased traffic causes increased use of petroleum based fuels, noise, dust, emissions and atmospheric deposition of pollutants on land and water, business, homes, and schools,” the resolution states.
