A Letter to Save81 Supporters

Dear Save81 Supporters,

Thank you for your continued support of Save81.org. As you are likely aware, the Department of Transportation recently released its Scoping Report detailing the final options for Interstate 81’s future that will be studied in the next 12 to 18 months.

We were encouraged that the DOT included in its report two options that will accomplish our goal of preserving I-81 along its current route here in Central New York. This includes options for a tunnel solution, which the DOT had previously been removed from consideration.

This means that your efforts to save I-81 are having a real impact on the discussion here in our community, and that our collective voice is being heard. More and more Central New Yorkers are realizing the importance of I-81 for our community, from its role as a vital economic artery and its impact on traffic flow, commute times, public safety and the environment.

In the coming months, Save81.org will continue to work tirelessly to forge a solution for the future of I-81 that maintains the highway’s current path and function through the region. It remains our goal to develop a consensus plan that takes into consideration both the transportation and economic future of the region as well as the safety and aesthetic concerns that have been voiced by some in the community.

We will continue to rely on your support to help us meet this important goal. This project is still in its early stages, and there is ample time to continue the discussion in the coming months. We look forward to continuing to work with you to save Interstate 81, and we thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Tony Mangano
