In June 2013, the Board of Trustees of the Village of Aurora presented a resolution to the New York State Department of Transportation, the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council, and the Cayuga County Legislature calling for the need to maintain I-81’s designation as an interstate through Syracuse.
Aurora’s leaders requested that the DOT carefully consider the negative consequences a boulevard plan and a rerouting of traffic away from Syracuse would bring to surrounding small outlying communities like Aurora. Increased commercial and truck traffic traveling through Aurora on State Route 90 would cause safety issues while decreasing the quality of life for town residents.
