In July, the Geddes Town Board passed a resolution, which was sent to the state’s Department of Transportation, local transportation officials and lawmakers, calling for any Interstate 81 rehabilitation plan to preserve the current alignment and flow through the region.
The resolution notes that “any solution which would remove I-81’s vital function from its present alignment would irreparably harm the regional economy and corresponding employment dependent upon the highway network in addition to negatively impacting Geddes’ neighborhoods and its residents quality of life.”
The Geddes Board also cited traffic and environmental concerns in calling for decision-makers to preserve I-81’s current alignment and function.
