Save81.org Commends Central New York Area Labor Federation for Saying “No” to a Boulevard

Labor Federation Adopted Building And Construction Trades Council’s Resolution Opposing Boulevard Plan For I-81 In Downtown Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In response to the Central New York Area Labor Federation’s opposition to the Boulevard Plan for I-81, Save81.org member Mark Nicotra, Town Supervisor of Salina, stated:

“The Labor Federation’s opposition to a boulevard further underscores the disastrous effect this plan could have for area workers,” said Save81.org’s Mark Nicotra, Town Supervisor of Salina. “I-81’s Interstate Highway designation through the city plays a significant role in our region’s economy that cannot be overstated. We look forward to working with the Labor Federation and its members to ensure that state officials focus on proposals for I-81 that allow local businesses to thrive and encourage job creation.”

Save81.org opposes the boulevard plan being considered by state officials to deal with the aging portions of I-81 in the area and believes there are multiple solutions that should be considered instead, including a tunnel, depressed roadway, a new bridge, a rebuilt elevated highway, or an idea that has yet to be proposed.
